Zealous Hellions: Nekima Levy Armstrong | Tuesday, November 30th at 7 PM CT
Mixed Blood is excited to announce our November virtual Zealous Hellion conversation. Nekima Levy Armstrong is joining us on Tuesday, November 30th for a conversation with John Gebretatose at 7 PM Central Time.
Nekima Levy Armstrong is a civil rights attorney, activist, national expert on racial justice, former law professor, and legal scholar. She previously served as Professor of Law at the University of St. Thomas Law School for thirteen years, where she founded and directed the Community Justice Project, an award-winning civil rights legal clinic.
Nekima is the Executive Director of the Wayfinder Foundation, which provides support for women of color activists and organizers around the country. Nekima is also the founder of the Racial Justice Network, a grassroots organization that organizes and leads protests and demonstrations in Minneapolis and the Twin Cities.
Nekima’s work has been featured on numerous local and national media. She previously served as president of the Minneapolis NAACP and as an advisor to Black Lives Matter. She ran for Mayor of Minneapolis in 2017.
John Gebretatose has been performing stand-up, improv, and sketch comedy in Minnesota’s Twin Cities for over 10 years. He is an instructor and Director of Diversity & Inclusion at HUGE Improv Theater in Minneapolis, MN, and has taught improv workshops in theaters, hospitals, corporate workspaces, K-12 schools, and colleges. He has also led and facilitated diversity and inclusion programming for improv theaters all over the world through his mission to uplift all voices. John trained and worked at the Brave New Workshop and is a founding member of Blackout Improv, Late Nights Minneapolis (a sketch comedy show), and co-founder of the Black and Funny Improv Festival. He has traveled the world performing, teaching, and directing improv.
