Raúl Ramos

Resident Artist, Stage Manager & IT Consultant

Raúl (he/him) first joined Mixed Blood in 1991 to work as an actor in The Grapes of Wrath. He has been involved in productions, in some capacity or other, every year since – as Actor, Director, Stage Manager, Associate Producer, Resident Artist, Translator, Production Manager, Summer Program Coordinator, Educator, IT Consultant, and many more.

Born in the town of Calexico, on the Southern California and Mexico border, Raúl graduated from Calexico High School before going on to UC San Diego, where he earned a B.A. in Theater and an MFA in Hispanic American Theater/Acting. Raúl’s interest in socially and politically relevant theatre led him to Mixed Blood, on the advice of his teacher and mentor Steve Pearson. After The Grapes of Wrath, Raúl stuck around: “26 years later, here I still am,” he says.

Why Mixed Blood:

Working here isn’t always easy, but the end product makes all the effort worthwhile. The theatre’s core mission is my own personal mission, so the effort I put forth toward Mixed Blood projects is effort I put forth toward my own self betterment. This is my own special place.”
