Previews start tomorrow

Attention world: you’ve been hearing about it for months, and tomorrow it all kicks off.

The trilogy of Gloria, Hooded & Hype Man launches into previews tomorrow and opens this Saturday.

$35 gets you a seat to all three. You can see all three in one day, or pick and choose what you’d like to see when.

As one critic put it, these shows are a “mic drop in the face of now.” And we couldn’t agree more.

With 27 performances in 16 days it’s best to plan ahead.

Performances this week:

Wednesday, Nov 14 HYPE MAN PREVIEW with pre-show talk with Jack Reuler
Thursday, Nov 15 HOODED PREVIEW with pre-show talk with Jack Reuler
Friday, Nov 16 GLORIA PREVIEW with pre-show talk with Jack Reuler
Saturday, Nov 17

  • Gloria at 4 pm
  • Hooded at 7 pm
  • Hype Man at 9:30 pm

Sunday, Nov 18

  • Hooded at 4 pm
  • Gloria at 6:30 pm

What’s that now: Hype Man

It’s a breakbeat play about soul, resistance, and who is obligated to react in times of community crisis. Frontman, hype man, and beatmaker are on the verge of making it big when the shooting of an unarmed black teen shakes the community. What results is tough conversations about racism, sexism, police brutality, and what it means to be an ally, especially as an artist.

Find out what’s with all the hype.

Why we’re giving to the max

Did you know, our most recent production of Is God Is gave away $51,107 worth of tickets via Radical Hospitality?!

That’s 1,400+ people who may have otherwise never experienced theater. And of those, 56% had never seen a play at Mixed Blood.

Mixed Blood remains the only theatre in America that is committed to having every ticket available at no cost, to anyone.

Which is why, this Thursday, we need your help:

Give to Mixed Blood this Thursday for Give to the Max to support the work of Radical Hospitality.

Some serious snackage

When you do three plays at once, it’s important to have snacks.

Which is why we’re dang excited to be partnering with Birchwood Cafe! They’ve whipped up some grub just for Mixed Blood, and it will be available all throughout the Trilogy.

Take a look at the whole menu here, and (bonus) you can even order ahead of time. You lucky patron, you.

Artist resources? They’re poppin

Springboard for the Arts is holding another pop up artist’s resource.

Andy Sturdevant and Dennis Madamba from Springboard for the Arts will be onsite at Mixed Blood, from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 19 to work with artists in the Pop-Up Resource Center free of charge. Artists, performers and creatives working in all disciplines are welcome to attend. They’ll be assisting with MNSure navigation and many other helpful things for artists.

The Weekly Reuling

“To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.”
