Brownbody and Subversive Sirens

Free Admission
April 10, 2023 7pm CT
Mixed Blood Theatre Alan Page Auditorium & Livestreamed

Mixed Blood welcomes members from two barrier-shattering performance ensembles: Suzy Messerole and Signe Harriday from the gold-medal winning synchronized swim team Subversive Sirens and Sandra Richardson and Deneane Richburg from the genre-defying performing arts company Brownbody, blending modern dance, social justice, theatre, and figure skating.

Together, these four inimitable artists will take part in a conversation about their art and their activism; their unique methods of development and performance; the joys and challenges of working in the water or on the ice; making space for folks who have traditionally been denied access to pools and ice skating rinks; and so much more!

This is also a chance to learn more about 12×12 and what the Sirens and Brownbody have planned for their performances that will celebrate the Phillips neighborhood and the city of Woodbury, respectively.

Seating for this event will be very limited, so reserve yours today!

Zealous Hellions is a project of Mixed Blood Theatre to provide our community with real-time, face-to-face conversations between artists, cultural provocateurs, politicians, and thought-leaders in an intimate setting.

Brownbody

Grounded in African Diasporic perspectives, Brownbody’s mission is to build artistic experiences that disrupt biased narratives and prompts audiences to engage as active participants in the journey. Brownbody accomplishes this through a blend of modern dance, theatre, social justice, and figure skating.

Alison Bergblom Johnson and Bryce Burton

March 13, 2023

Mixed Blood welcomes multidisciplinary artists Bryce Burton and Alison Bergblom Johnson in a free-wheeling conversation about body positivity, disability, queer identity and more. These two extraordinary and idiosyncratic artists will discuss art that crosses boundaries between the visual and the performative; accessibility and unapologetically owning your support needs; building a unique life around neurodivergency; and overcoming stereotypes both professional and personal.
