Deepening our work in Cedar Riverside
MIxed Blood's zip code, 55454, is the most ethnically diverse between Chicago and the West Coast. In 2009, Mixed Blood began building relationships within the local East African communities. Over the years, Mixed Blood has expanded its work within the Cedar Riverside community to include offering event space for neighborhood organizations and facilitating local artists.
Radical Hospitality - Free Admission: For all Mainstage shows, admission is free on first come first served basis starting 2 hours before every show.
Mixed Blood Welcomes Artist Taous Khazem
Taous is expanding our Cedar Riverside programming with her project to gather Somali folktales. Thanks to the Fox Foundation Actor Fellowships for supporting Taous! She will recreate a project she developed in Algeria called The Kabyle Folktale Project. The project will bring the Somali neighbors together to share folktales they remember from their childhood. She will also work with young neighborhood actors to devise an original play incorporating physical storytelling.
Created by neighborhood liaison Ayub Farah and Artist in Residence Mark Valdez, these youth-focused events brought our friends and neighbors to the Firehouse!
